The first section has full-color photos of the motifs stitched by each designer with the name of the plant beside the photo.

Use the pattern number by the photo to find the pattern inside the book.

The book also offers basic directions on supplies, tracing the motif using dressmaker's carbon paper, and how to make the basic stitches that are used in the motifs, and a small number of ideas on how to use the motifs.

Most of the book has the pattern. On the left side the directions show which stitch to use while the right side shows the clean pattern without words or markings.

I really like the designs in this book and you will be seeing many of these designs in my quote quilt.

I would have liked the color photo closer to the motif, as I find the digital copy cumbersome to move back and forth from the front of the book to the back. It might just be my computer that made scrolling so slow. Even with a physical copy, though, it would be better to have the color copy closer to the pattern. Color makes such a big difference. I found some designs that made me go back to the color to see what it looked like so I was flipping back and forth several times to get the full understanding of the design.

I got a limited-time digital copy of this book from Net Galley.

Blue & White Quilts: 13 Remarkable Quilts with Timeless Appeal* by
That Patchwork Place offers beautiful traditional quilts, which means
that you may have already seen these patterns, but they are beautiful
and worth a second look. They are recreated using modern techniques.

The quilts are made by these designers: Lissa Alexander, Lisa Bongean, Julie Hendricksen, Sherri McConnell,
Camille Roskelley, Laurie Simpson, Helen Stubbings, Debbie Roberts,
Jill Shaulis, Nancy Mahoney, Paula Barnes, and Mary Ellen Robison.

Because there are many different designers, it is worth reading the patterns to find different techniques to make the same block, to see which one you like. Most of the quilts use simple techniques, but will take perseverance to make the multiple blocks.

Most of the quilts are pieced, but there is some applique.

I really like this star.

I also like using a dark background instead of a light background. The stars are on point. The pattern calls for making the flying geese using the stitch and flip method.

Some blocks are bigger.

This applique and pieced quilt uses the four at a time flying geese method.
I received a review copy of Blue and White Quilts* from Edelweiss. It was published by That Patchwork Place on December 6, 2019 and is 96 pages.
In A Sisterhood of Scraps*, Lissa Alexander compiles quilt patterns made by seven different designers:. Susan Ache, Kim Brackett, Barbara Brackman, Sheryl Johnson, Laurie Simpson, and Sandy Klop. The subtitle is 12 Brilliant Quilts From 7 Fantastic Designers. For some of them, she makes her own version of the quilts based on the theme. Although there are twelve quilts, some of them are quite similar.
The writing in the introduction and the biography of Lissa are more chatty and less formal than I am used to seeing in a quilt book, and lends a more casual feel to the book. There is a certificate in the back of the book to prove that you are a part of the sisterhood.

The rest of the book showcase beautiful quilts and provide
modern ways to recreate these vintage beauties. There are lots of wonderful photographs of the quilts and step by step directions for making them. I found myself wanting
to make almost all of them.
Graphic Quilts From Everyday Images is by Heather Schrimsher. The subtitle is 15 Patterns Inspired by Urban Life, Architecture, and Beyond. I'm sorry the photos have a yellow cast to them. I took them when the
sun was out and used a cool light bulb so I'm not sure what happened, and
this is the best the photo editing software could do. This photo is cool grays and blues and the photo doesn't do it justice.
It is published by Martingale using That Patchwork Place imprint. This one is my favorite quilt in the book. The orange leaves float on a deep plum background.
The book is divided into three sections. Enlarged Detail recommends focusing on enlarging a certain detail of photographs the author has taken.

The next section, Blocks and Repeats, plays with the details taken out of a photo.

The last section, Lines and Strips, focuses on the main elements of a photo or subject. This requires simplification to distill the most important part of the subject.
There are also curved piecing. I like this one because it is so graphic and interesting with just a few curved seams. And they are big, so they shouldn't be too difficult to sew.
Lunch-Hour Patchwork is published by Martingdale. The people at the publisher spend Wednesday lunches making a project, like these projects that are pretty quick to make. The subtitle is 15 Easy-to-start (and finish!) projects. They don't promise that the projects will be finished in an hour, but they will fill an hour with fun and relaxation.
My favorite quilt in this book is this tiny trees project. Since I haven't sewn my equilateral triangles together, I was somewhat surprised that they didn't sew this quilt in rows of equilateral triangles, alternated with stumps. Instead each of the trees are made as a block, like the Christmas trees quilt I made. This is actually a quilt I am thinking about making.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book about a woman who was gifted an intriguing crazy quilt which led her to a search about the maker of the quilt. The book goes back and forth between two stories - a sociology student is interviewing a woman from an insane asylum who tells a far-fetched story about having a love-child with a member of the royal family, and the woman researching the quilt. The quilt goes through a little adventure of its own.

They all look pretty perfect to me. I really like the soft aesthetic of this cover quilt on the bed. I also liked the hand sewing on the jeans in the background. Just some running stitches to decorate the jeans.
The first stack are the books I checked out this week. To highlight a couple of books from this stack, Journal Sparks and Joyful Daily Stitching are books I have checked out before. Journal Sparks gives lots of great ideas of writing in a journal, and also has lots of beautiful visuals. The Drawing School is one I will be following to get over my fear of drawing. It is very basic, kindergarten level drawing, which is here I need to start. It has a large variety of drawings, with step by step directions on how to draw each one.
Lastly, this stack is books I was able to pick up for sale at the library! I didn't go to the Friends of the Library Big Book sale because it is just so dangerous, but there were quilt books for sale at my local library.

It is making me nervous that they are selling so many of the quilting books, but it looks like they are reducing their book stacks in general. Maybe more people are reading e-books or giving up on books altogether. Some of these books are pretty skinny, so I had to lay them out for you to see the titles. A lot of books didn't have library labels though so maybe a quilter is just clearing out her excess.

Quilts from El's Attic is by Eleanor Burns, and Quilting Those Flirty 30s seems like it has a lot of interesting patterns. The Uffizi is paintings from an art gallery. I was going to get a children's book so I could cut out pictures for a junk journal, if I ever get around to making one, but chose this one instead because it is bigger for the same price, and has more variety of paintings. It doesn't have the cutesy factor a children's book would have, so we'll have to see if I can cut it up.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210416496542622673.post-3805309249680881422018-10-08T19:06:00.000-07:002018-10-08T19:29:36.947-07:00Library Shelf #1

Tierney Creates
gives you a view of the books she got from the library and I thought I
might do the same. Let me tell you first that I find that it is risky to
tell you what I have, because then you might request it from the
library and I won't be able to renew it if you are waiting for it. I
thought that maybe I could show you a stack of books I am returning, and
then I won't have that problem, but that would be too hard for me to
keep up, so you will just have to promise me not to ask my library for
the book until I am finished with it.

I will review some of these books at a future date.

I am excited
about this stack because I spent the day at the library on Saturday for a
genealogy conference. They had all these genealogy books ready for us
to check out, but I was more excited about the quilting books I hadn't
seen and grabbed as many as I could carry. This shelf in my house is
reserved for library books.

No other books are allowed
here so I don't return any of my own books. No, I can't carry all the
books on that shelf; some of these books were already on my book shelf.
We are allowed to check out 50 books at a time. There are books on
cooking, psychology, art, and of course quilting. Most of the children's
books have been returned. I got them for the pictures so I could
practice drawing but I didn't get around to that before the books had to
be returned.

The other exciting about this shelf is
the shelf underneath the one you can see. There is half a shelf full of
books I got this year at library sales, at less than $2 a book. Most of
those are quilting books, which I thought was bad news because maybe
they are buying fewer quilting books, but the shelves at the main
library was promising.

There is a big library book sale this weekend, but I should probably avoid it.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210416496542622673.post-81122535971852362872018-10-05T16:46:00.002-07:002018-10-05T16:46:26.964-07:00Book Review: Mother Goose Remembers

I found this adorable children's book from the library. It's called Mother Goose Remembers
by Clare Beaton. It has the common rhymes, and some that weren't
familiar to me, but that may not mean much since we didn't read them as
children.

Have
you noticed that the graphics are actually handwork - applique, mostly
wool, with a smattering of embroidery, along with some beads and
buttons? Humpty Dumpty is looking dapper with his bow tie and suit jacket and his spectacles. The wall even has a fossil in it, and the big bunch of flowers with buttons are going to help soften his fall.

I spent a long time admiring all the details in this work. Here's Wee Willie Winkie running through the town in his night shirt. Notice the moon and the little tiny beads in the stars. The houses have chimneys. The windows have window panes and the doors have panels. There is even a doorknob.

It even comes with a CD so you can sing along. I did not listen to the CD so I can't speak to the quality of the music. Here's the cat with his beautiful intricate fiddle complete with bow and the dog is really enjoying it and singing along. The dog even has a collar with a tag. Look at the little tufts of grass behind them.

There Was a Crooked Man is one of my favorites. The croked man goes past the crooked fence to walk his crooked mile and the cat and mouse are there to keep him company. The garden and the house fit him perfectly. He still has his crooked sixpence, so maybe he hasn't bought the cat yet. This cat would be perfect for a Halloween themed quilt. The page has a nice rickrack trim and the clouds and the birds help complete the scene.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210416496542622673.post-89625348081887683452018-08-19T08:50:00.000-07:002018-08-19T08:50:47.699-07:00Scrap Quilt Secrets

Scrap Quilt Secrets by Diane D. Knott gives us six secrets on how to make coherent, cohesive scrap quilts that look beautiful while using up the scraps. The secrets are coded using the first letters of the word "SCRAPS". Some of them are available on her blog, but I will leave you to find out these secrets.

There are 16 projects, according to the cover, so I am not going to go through them all, but here are my favorites. The colors in this project makes me think of OSU Buckeyes, and I love how the simple pattern can make such an interesting quilt.

I almost wanted to start digging through my stash to make this one, but I remembered I have Glitter which only has one block made, and think I should wait until I have more patience/confidence to make something like this. A four block quilt like this would be do-able though! This doesn't look much like a scrap quilt, but the backgrounds are scraps, and the orange and red are constants in this quilt.

Another simple and pretty block. Scrap quilts don't have to be bright and colorful!

The cover quilt is also beautiful, and more in line with what I would think a scrap quilt looks like.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210416496542622673.post-1373484430538672482017-08-13T18:42:00.002-07:002017-08-13T18:42:39.305-07:00Normal by Grame Cameron

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a book about a serial killer who appears to be normal from outward appearances. While the lack of affect of the serial killer is an effective technique to see things from his point of view, it made me hard to empathize with either him or any of his victims or other people in the story, or to understand why the others did what they did.

When I added this book to my Goodreads page, I learned that there is a sequel to this book. This was disappointing to me, as I wanted to read something short and quick. I did not want to start a new project. I wanted to know how it completely ends at the end.
On principle, I had learned to dislike trying to match a quilt to a room. After all, quilts are special and should outlast any trends that household decorations have. A quilt is art, and shouldn't be subjected to the whims of the day. You should decorate the house around the quilt, not the other way around.

After seeing this book, I have changed my mind. First of all, once you find a mood that you like, you should certainly try to emulate that mood with your quilt, whether it is from a photograph or the way a room already feels. Not to match the decorating style, but to match the mood and the style. There are lots of pictures of the setting that inspired the mood of the quilt, and patterns so you can emulate that mood in a quilt. The author is an interior designer who teaches you how to use a quilt to add to the design of the room.

Also, if you are giving a quilt as a gift, you want to match the tastes and moods of the recipient.

This is another book that provides a quicker way to make a quilt. Appli-Quilting; Applique & Quilt at the Same Time! by Gina Perkes provides different levels of applique and quilting. If you click on the link, it will take you to Amazon, which provides a look inside some of the pages of the book.

With this technique the applique is prepared and positioned on the background fabric. The applique can be turned under or raw edge. The top is then sandwiched, and the applique is secured with quilting stitches. I have done this many times, but the book provides great tips about different ways to secure the edges of the applique and different quilting designs to highlight the applique. There are full size pattern sheets to go along with the instructions.

When I was trying to decide on my favorite, I chose the Garden Bling,
which was used as an example in many parts of the techniques section.
Unfortunately, it was not one of the projects in the book.

This page shows snippets of all of the projects. Perkes provides skill building projects and techniques for domestic and
long arm sewing machines. There is a lot of material about techniques,
so there are only six projects in the book. I thought that was a good
balance, and mastering the techniques is more important than the
projects themselves.
Quilting does not need to be complicated or difficult to be cute. In this book, Soft & Cozy Keepsakes; Faux Rag Quilting, Margo Yang shows how to make cute quilts. This reminds me of chenille, which I have never done, so I am not sure if the technique is similar.

The key to making these quilts is to make and bind a quilt and use that as a canvas to make the faux rag strips to make the design. You then clip the strips to make it rag.

There are 16 projects in this book - 12 quilts, 3 pillows and one tote.
My favorite - the fireworks pillow - looks very simple with the straight lines, but quite striking. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As you would expect any book about athletes who made it to the Olympics to be inspirational, this book was also. It is about endurance, perseverance, and commitment. It is also about family, relationships, trust and working as a team.

I read the children's version. I haven't read or looked at the other one, but I think the difference may be that the children's version may have just left out parts that were not palatable for young readers. The vocabulary and style of writing still seemed to be advanced, which is good for children to stretch. Everything is clearly described, and you can really feel for Joe and his team mates throughout the book. This version also has photographs that the adult versions may not have.

It is a beautiful book with 13 beautiful patterns. There are some that are completely applique, some that are completely pieced, and some that have a mixture of both.

The quilts represent quilts that were discussed in the eighteen novels by Jennifer Chiaverini about the Elm Creek Quilters of Waterford, Pennsylvania. It was a real treat to see the quilts and see how they compared to the ones I imagined while I was reading the novels. The quilts are beautiful, and the instructions appear to be thorough, but generally do not provide quilting instructions.

There is one quilt that is appropriate for a beginner quilter, but the remainder appear to be for the confident intermediate or advanced quilter. This is a refreshing change from the many beginner books I have been drawn to lately. Sometimes we need to stretch and expand our skills, and a book like this is a good way to do just that.

Many of the quilts involve using templates, curved piecing and / or intricate applique. I think we should not limit our quilting techniques to those that use modern rotary cutting if a template provides additional value, but there was a square that was provided as one of the template needed for a quilt. It would have been nice to modernize the directions to avoid using templates when they are not necessary.
Since
I have been taking weaving lessons, I have been looking at other fiber
arts. I saw a beautiful canvases with fabric and scrapbooking paper collages. I am definitely going to have to try this idea.
When I went to the crafts store to buy scrap booking paper for my
niece, I came across this book.that immediately caught my attention and
would not let go. Fabric Samplers: Journals Bookcovers Mini Purses, Pincushions/Create Wonderful Collages with Wool, Felt, Fabric, Floss and Accents
is written
by Carmen Daumer. It includes different projects such as journals, book
covers, mini purses and pincushions. All of these projects include a
wonderful mix of wool, felt, fabric, floss and accents. I haven't used
wool yet in any projects - mostly because I am afraid to start a whole
new stash, but I think I am pretty convinced that I need to start. They
all have wonderful touches, and you can examine each piece for a long
time to catch all the details.

And since they are patterns you
can customize, you can personalize them to make a beautiful and creative
Christmas gift. Each of the projects would make a unique gift that is
sure to please.
Just
look at the table of contents! In case you can't see the index very
well, there are several different types of journal covers - Cup Cafe
Journal Cover, Sew Journal Cover, I Love Ewe Journal Cover, Hearts
Journal Cover, Pretty in Pink Journal cover, Girls Journal Cover, Boys
Journal Cover, and Socks Journal cover. Other projects include mini
purses, Seed Purse, Games People Play book cover, Framed Seed art,
Harvest Pumpkin Purse, Pumpkin Harvest Journal, Gardens Blooms, Flower
Pincushion, Sewing Purse, Boxes, Wall quilt, and Tomato Pincushion. I
think the journals and journal covers and framed art can all be
intermixed, so if you want framed art, and like the journal cover
pattern, you can simply make it art.

The first part of the book
includes beautiful photos of each of the projects, basic descriptions
and tips. The rest of the book include detailed instructions on how to
make each project. I found all of them to be quite adorable, and am very
happy with my purchase. These projects are not quilts, but they
certainly are perfect projects for a quilter to expand her skills.
These projects would make great personalized Christmas gifts. Wool
projects make me think of primitive style of quilts and folk art. The
projects are very stylish and contemporary.

This book is the perfect combination of quilting and genealogy. You can
record your family heritage in a beautiful quilt and create a wonderful
heirloom to share with future generations.

Crazy-Quilted Memories: Beautiful Embroidery Brings Your Family Portraits to Life by Brian Haggard showcases many different quilts that can help you honor your family. The link takes you to Amazon which offers a look inside the book to see some of the pages.

I really enjoyed the soft nostalgic colors that he used in all of the
projects, even though I didn't use them in the quilt I made. Those
colors might show up in future quilts though! The book shows you how to
do photo transfers, and provides some embroidery designs, and crazy
quilting templates, and encourages you to try your own designs to
customize the quilt just for you. I especially like the clock shown on
the cover.

There are directions on making specific quilts, but
there is a lot of customizing for the size of the photo, the designs of
the fabric, etc. This book might be overwhelming for beginners because
of all the different techniques - piecing, embroidery, photo transfer,
etc, unless the beginner is confident or liberated enough to try things
to see how they go.

All of the projects in this book - quilts,
pillows, bags, crests - are beautiful. Most of them are small enough
projects that they don't look overwhelming to me, and I think I might be
trying to make several of these.

The book is published by C&T Publishing.
I have to admit that I don't read a lot of diet books. They seem so depressing. They rush into what you should eat and what you shouldn't eat and what exercises to do, and they quickly get overwhelming. I read this book because it was a free for review book from Waterbrook Press, but I am glad that I did. The One-Day Way: Today Is All the Time You Need to Lose All the Weight You Want by Chantel Hobbs spends one chapter on exercise, and one chapter on food. They are important chapters and provide lots of good information. There are many (31) different simple exercises to try. And the food provides a weekly menu of simple, easy to prepare, normal foods to eat. But what I like best about the book is that the rest of the chapters helps you create the mindset to successfully live your life in a healthful manner without beating yourself up for past mistakes or getting overwhelmed with lofty goals. Choosing today as the point of no return, you won't be looking at whether you were successful yesterday. You keep moving forward day by day.
Even though these two books traveled to Italy with me, I wound up not reading very much, and finished another book instead. I did manage to read them since then. They were a lot of fun to read. One of the contestants drops dead in the middle of the competition and soon other competitors are also falling dead. Liza has to solve the mystery, before she becomes a victim.

These books are part of a series of books from Berkley Prime Crime which includes Earlene Fowler with quilting mysteries featuring Benni Harper, Needlecraft mysteries, scrapbooking mysteries, knitting mysteries, decoupage mysteries and sewing circle mysteries.

I found the sudoku books entertaining and fun. The mysteries are interesting, with lots of characters, some humor, and the story of Liza's life is moving ahead in the story. The puzzles are placed in the book to fit at the top or bottom of a page, so they don't fit in exactly in place with the story, but once you know that, it isn't a big deal.

The tips are also educational, but I think reading the series in order might help with some of the explanations. Some of these explanations are cumbersome to read through - which is understandable when you have to explain where the number is and how it is related to other numbers in the set, but they do make sense if you pay attention and think it through one step at a time.

One problem with borrowing these books from the library is that another patron already filled out the solutions in one of the books. I did get some satisfaction when I noticed that a puzzle had been solved incorrectly. It is a rather difficult one, and I am still working on finding a way to solve it. In the book, someone gives a lecture on how to solve the difficult one, but the explanation is not given in the book, probably to keep the focus on the crime.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3210416496542622673.post-48923697630817312752011-08-24T18:50:00.000-07:002017-08-01T19:15:00.894-07:00Escaping the Endless Adolescence

We
have all known that teenagers are now treated as big children instead
of small adults for a while now. They continue to live with their
parents much longer than in the past, and even when they move out, they
continue to receive assistance from us. Instead of striving to push
themselves, they feel entitled to the luxuries they have become
accustomed to at home. And I've gotten a nagging feeling that we should
be doing something about that, but it just seems so hard - that we need
to change the entire culture.

Escaping the Endless Adolescence: How We Can Help Our Teenagers Grow Up Before They Grow Old by Joseph and Claudia Worrell Allen, PhDs helps put a magnifying glass
on the problem and provides possible solutions. Their findings are based
on research. It explains how this phenomenon is hurting the teenager as
much as it is annoying the parents and society. It helped change my
thinking about many situations.

Escaping the Endless Adolescence

Here are just a few of the topics covered in the book:

They discuss the history of teenagers. In the past, teenagers
were treated as budding adults, and became apprentices to learn the
skills to go forth on their own. We now send them to school, where they
are surrounded by their peers and very few adults to serve as role
models. Juvenile delinquency was not common in the past and in other
societies. The authors postulate the reasons for this.

Teen brains are more capable than adult brains in important ways
than we give them credit. We need to take advantage of these differences
and capacities instead of wasting them. We tend to underestimate our
teenager's abilities, even though they routinely handled the same tasks
in the past.

We stifle our teens by worrying about rare dangers, such as
abduction by strangers, and completely ignore the common risks. The book
lists the common risks and tells us what we can do to avoid them.

The authors have found that we can reduce teen pregnancy rates by 50%, without ever having any discussions about sex.

They have found that the popular kids tend to have higher rates of
drug use and delinquency than less popular kids. The authors explains
why this is the case.

Simply getting a job for teens may not be the right answer. There are other methods that are more effective.

Even when parents are struggling financially, we tend to give kids
everything they want. This leaves them with a feeling of entitlement,
and other effects of "precocious affluence".

By sending them to school, and stifling them from the real world, we
have given over the process of socializing teens to the peer group. The
book shows how we can take it back.

Escaping the Endless Adolescence Book Review

I
have read several books lately that talk about people of this
generation, with their sense of entitlement, and their unwillingness to
grow up to become dependable and responsible adults. These kids are not
willing to struggle and start from the bottom to work their way up. They
expect things to be handed to them on a silver platter, and continue to
get assistance from their helicopter parents.
Their parents have given them a sense of fear about the bad world
outside, and make them feel that they aren't capable of doing things on
their own. The world is much more complicated today than in the past,
but our kids are fully capable, if only we would give them our
confidence that they can do it.
I know lots of people who are getting support from their parents -
these people are underemployed and could very well do better. But I'm
not sure how much of it is also due to the economy. It is harder to get a
job, especially starting out without a lot of experience. In a poor
economy, it is tough to take that much rejection, and since there is
such an easy fallback of continuing to rely on the parents, I can
completely understand why they would continue to do so.

My daughter is willing to work hard and do what it takes to get a job
and become a responsible adult. She wants that, and I am sure that most
people of her generation do too. By trusting in their abilities, and
providing them with solid adult role models and mentors, they can
succeed and lead happy, adult lives.

This book shows ways that we can help our children and other adolescence in our lives to become productive adults.

I got this book from the library and I highly recommend reading it.
It is useful not only for parents of teenagers and would-be teenagers,
but also people who are around teenagers in their lives, so pretty much
society at large.

When my family cleaned my house while I was on vacation, I was a little worried. I had just finished reading a book Boomer Burden about planning to or having to handle your parent's stuff after they are deceased. What if my family got a glimpse of what it would be like after I was gone? My sister did say that I didn't have as many things as she thought I would. But that's not all, I was also reading this book about compulsive hoarding.

Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things by Randy Frost and Professor Gail Steketee, PhD is a very insightful book about the accumulation of things and the thinking processes of the people who collect things. It helped to see what the people were thinking, what their reasons for collecting and keeping things are, etc. The authors really seem like they want to help people, not make fun of them or sensationalize their condition for profit.

I have often thought that having a quilting stash is hoarding in a way. If I buy fabric for a quilt I am going to be making soon, then it is fine. But buying just for the purpose of adding it to the stash seems like hoarding to me. By the time I go looking for fabric in the stash, it might be too out of date and ugly for me to use. It is unlikely that a good fabric will not be available at the store when I am ready for it. I have to keep telling myself that, since I also have a counter-argument: I know I like scrap quilts, and having a collection does help when I make them.

I am not a hoarder. You can see my floors and my walls, except the part that is covered by furniture and decorations. But a lot of the excuses do make sense to me, and I think all of us have a little bit of hoarder in ourselves. And to that extent I am a hoarder. Even before these books, I have been trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have. I think that besides the fact that it will help my family when I am gone, I think having less stuff makes it easier to clean the house, and have fewer places dust can hide, and I will have less to worry about moving if and when I move. But in the meantime, the stuff is taking a great deal of my time, as I sort through it to decide what to give away and throw away and what to keep. And to find better places in my home for the things I am keeping.Shelina (formerly known as Shasta)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03290945204269323129noreply@blogger.com1
